Phillipp Fürhofer’s art ranges from installations to paintings and sculptures, to theatrical set design. It is inspired by questions of mortality and eternity, by humanity and technology. We caught up with Fürhofer, 38, ahead of his talk “Art as Rescue” at Palais Populaire on August 11, to hear about his new book (Dis)Illusions and how almost loosing his life changed his outlook and work.

Food news: Doors closed on Barcomi's Mitte deli

Cynthia Barcomi is among the ex-pat pioneers who paved the way for the food scene the city boasts today. In 1994, Barcomi's brought classic American Deli food, coffee, and other treats to the Hauptstadt. Now, as a result of the lockdown regulations, Barcomi’s has closed its large location in Mitte. New rules for hotels and restaurants, Senat calls for legal open-air parties and extends Corona aid programs

The Berlin Senat will allow hotels and restaurants to host up to six people per table without a distance of 1.5m. That was previously only possible if guests were part of the same household. The new rules will come into play on Saturday, which is good news for hotel and restaurant owners, as it means that they will be able host more people.

Schwarzes Café: “We might not recover.”

One of Berlin’s favouries cafes is in crisis. Open since 1978, the 24-hour Schwarzes Café on Kantstraße is the night-life hub in Charlottenburg. But, like many similar businesses, the pandemic has affected it severely. They are now calling for help with a crowdfunding campaign on Startnext, aiming to raise over €400,000 to stay in business.
